Two people were injured in a wreck Sunday evening on U.S. 98 in front of Hardees.
Brandon Fulgham was driving a Ford Mustang with Brittany Sauls as a passenger and pulled out of the parking lot by Hardees turning east onto the highway when a Nissan Altima driving west on 98 hit the Mustang, according to Fulgham and Sauls.
Phillip Ezell, the driver of the Altima, and passenger Larry Magee each suffered injuries and were transported by AAA Ambulance to Forrest General Hospital.
Overall there was one fatality and 53 injuries on state highways over the Memorial Day weekend, according to the Highway Patrol. The fatal wreck happened Monday in Jackson County. Kayla Danielle Pittman, 24, of Ocean Springs was pronounced dead on the scene on U.S. 90 near Mississippi 57.
Beginning Friday state troopers did saturation patrols and roadblocks. According to the Highway Patrol, it issued 7,296 citations, made 159 DUI arrests and investigated 148 crashes statewide.
