Planning for the fifth annual Veterans Picnic at the Columbia Water Park is already under way.
The event is being sponsored by several organizations, according to Veterans Picnic Chairman Mark Retcho.
“The Veterans Picnic Committee, Veterans Service Office of Columbia and Veterans of Foreign Wars are helping to celebrate Veterans Day,” he said. “The event is open to the public.”
The picnic will take place beginning at 10 a.m. on Nov. 11.
“It will include the annual Car, Truck and Bike show, which includes a military vehicle category,” Retcho said. “Mack Grubbs Motors will have some 2018 models on display and Hattiesburg Cycles will be bringing some new motorcycles.”
Retcho said a host of other activities are planned for the day.
“There will be military displays, a B.B. gun target range, a jumper and slide for the children and more,” he said. “Food and drinks will be available and all proceeds will once again be donated to the Wounded Minutemen of Mississippi. The Wounded Minutemen not only help members of the Mississippi National Guard, but all branches of service whose members were wounded in Iraq or Afghanistan. Our veterans are going to need help for years to come. Please come out and show your support for our veterans.”
Registration for the Veterans Picnic Car, Truck and Bike Show begins at 9 a.m. The opening ceremony is set for noon, with the Mississippi National Guard set to raise a new flag over the Water Park.
“When the ceremony ends, the picnic will resume and fun will be had by all,” Retcho said. “The picnic ends at 3 p.m. We encourage people to help us help our wounded veterans.
