County Engineer Jeff Dungan updated the Board of Supervisors Thursday on the various projects. Dungan said the next bridge set for replacement will be on New Hope Road. The bridge being replaced is is between Johnson Road and A. Pittman Road. If the bridge was not closed on Friday which is after press deadline, it would be closed on Monday.
District 4 Supervisor Raymon “Tater” Rowell said detour signs will be placed in the area to re-route the traffic while the bridge is being replaced. Dungan said the bridge will be closed for about two months depending on the weather.
Dungan provided an update on other projects going on in the county.
Discussion was held regarding the debris removal from the April 19 tornado. As of Aug. 26, there was still 17,000 yards of debris left in the hot spots in both Pine Burr and Sandy Hook areas. The amount of debris work that had been completed by Sept. 9 has come to just under $1 million. By the time the rest of the debris in the hot spots on both sides of the river is collected the cost will be close to $1.1 million. Dungan said he believes the hot spots will be cleaned within the next couple of weeks.
Dungan said they will do what they can on the hot spots and then the clean-up will stop. He said he know they will not get everything cleaned up.
The bridge on Old Highway 35 South has been completed, the only left is the final inspection which Dungan said he was working on setting up.
A utility agreement was approved between the county and AT&T for AT&T to move the cable while the bridge on Lampton Hilltop Road is being replaced.
One bridge needed to be posted Dungan said. The bridge on River Bend Road needs to be posted for tandem trucks. The signs have been ordered he said.
The reseal project for Gates and a part of River Bend and River roads is still awaiting for approval from the Mississippi Department of Transportation. The supervisors approved the project back in July. With Gates Road being a state-aid road, MDOT has to approve the project as well.
The county paving project has Warren and Warren working in District 4. Rowell said they are working near A. Pittman Road and Davis Road.
