Wildcats rebound from walk-off loss

District play started out in crushing fashion for Columbia after falling to Forrest County AHS on a walk-off March 18, but that loss triggered something for the Wildcats. It led to them bouncing back at home Friday to take the series via run differential and even knock off a quality team in North Pike Saturday.

Trojans top Tylertown in region opener

West Marion may have started 2025 in subpar fashion, but none of that matters now. The only games that count overall come across a four-week span – Region 8-3A play. Following two games against Tylertown March 20 and Friday, the Trojans are undefeated in the meaningful win-loss column.

CA pushed to the brink in sweep of Brookhaven Academy

Strictly judging by wins and losses, Columbia Academy has had plenty of success over nearby Brookhaven Academy on the baseball diamond. The CA Cougars haven’t lost to the BA Cougars since March 23, 2022 – including two playoff series – but it has never been a walk in the park for CA.

Chip Bilderback, center, returns to Columbia High School to coach the Wildcat football team after 10 months away. He led the Wildcats to a state title in 2021 and South State title in 2023. His wife, Missy, right, was hired by Southern Miss on Sunday to be the women’s head basketball coach. Their son, Drew, left, will be returning to CHS as a senior member of the football and basketball teams.

What led to Bilderback's return to Columbia

There will be a familiar face roaming the sidelines at Columbia football games next season as Chip Bilderback returns to the program to take over as head coach after one year away. Lance Pogue, who led the Wildcats to an 8-4 record this past season, announced his departure to Brandon High School Monday morning.
