Marion County Farm Bureau held its annual meeting on Oct. 24 at the Columbia Expo Center. A catfish dinner was served with approximately 240 attending. The meeting was open to all Farm Bureau members.
Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation was founded in 1922, and Marion County Farm Bureau was found in 1923. Since its beginning, the purpose of Farm Bureau Federation has been to provide a unified voice for Mississippi agriculture through legislation, to promote farm commodities and to serve as a leader in the community and state.
Farm Bureau Federation is an organization that believes in giving back to the community. Members were reminded of many member benefits that are available to them. This includes discounts in models, entertainment, farm equipment and prescriptions. There are scholarships available for students and numerous contests.
Agriculture in the classroom provides information and demonstrations for students and teachers. Curricula aterials are available to all area schools, public, private and homeschoolers. The curricula is hands-on and grade specific and correlates to the curriculum objectives as prescribed by the Mississippi Department of Education. Professional development workshops are offered each summer for teachers. These also carry CEU credits.
