Playoff baseball and softball has finally arrived in Marion County, and five area teams are set to enjoy the action. The Columbia Wildcats, Lady Wildcats, East Marion Lady Eagles, West Marion Trojans and the Lady Trojans will all begin their quest for state on Thursday and Friday.
The Wildcats (15-10, 1-5), fresh off of a 4-2 win at Loyd Star April 10 and a 9-8 loss to Amite School Center Monday, earned a No. 4 seed in the Class 4A playoffs. Columbia will face a familiar foe in Lawrence County, whom the Wildcats share a district with in multiple sports but not baseball. The two teams played twice in 2025, with the Wildcats prevailing 17-7 at home Feb. 15 and 12-9 on the road Feb. 28.
Game 1 takes place in Monticello Friday, and first pitch of Game 2 is set for Saturday at 7 p.m. at Columbia.
The Lady Wildcats (15-12, 2-4) won six of their last seven games heading into the postseason, including wins over D’Iberville, Hattiesburg and Lawrence County. The No. 3 seed Columbia squad are matched with Richland – a team Columbia faced in Round 1 of the football and boys basketball playoffs.
Game 1 takes place in Richland Friday, and Game 2 is set for 3 p.m. Saturday at Columbia.
The Trojans (9-13, 7-1) earned a No. 1 seed after winning the Region 8-3A championship Friday, squaring off with Noxubee County (1-17) Thursday in a doubleheader at The Swamp, starting at 4:30 p.m..
West Marion’s Lady Trojans (20-4, 6-2) earned a No. 2 seed and face off with McLaurin, also in a Thursday doubleheader. First pitch at The Swamp is set for 4:30 p.m. in Game 1, followed by Game 2.
East Marion (7-10, 2-6) is set to compete with Leland, the Region 5-1A champion, this weekend, featuring a Friday doubleheader at Leland. The Lady Eagles took down Tylertown 13-1 Monday on Senior Night.
