Carol Durham, curator of the Marion County Museum and Archives, announced this week that Columbia and the surrounding Marion County community has been granted the distinct privilege of serving as a host location for a prestigious and highly celebrated traveling Smithsonian exhibit.
The local community was one of only six locations expressly chosen to host this extraordinary exhibition titled “Crossroads: Change in Rural America,” which examines the evolving landscape of rural America.
This unique traveling display program is a Museum on Main Street exhibition and sponsored by the Smithsonian Institute and the Mississippi Humanities Council. The local exhibit is scheduled to open with a special reception from 4-6pm on March 27 at the Marion County Museum & Archives located at 200 Second St., Columbia.
Beginning the following day, the Crossroads exhibit will be on display at the museum for the public to enjoy from 9am to 5pm every Tuesday through Saturday, from March 28 through May 8.
Please be on the lookout for additional information, photos and specific details about the Crossroads exhibit and displays that will be published in The Columbian-Progress during the next couple of weeks, as the exhibition launch date approaches.
