Remembering a Marion County legend

The Columbian-Progress extends its heartfelt condolences to the Holmes family and all of Hilton Holmes' relatives. Holmes, who died at the age of 91 on Dec. 11, was a great friend to the C-P and to all of Marion County. Together with Paul Pounds, Holmes started the Marion County Football Championship and Most Valuable Player award.

The Marion County School District is adding driver’s ed for the 2026-2027 school year. The program addition was mandated by the Mississippi Department of Education.

Marion County Schools adding driver’s ed program

The Marion County School District will be introducing driver’s ed to the curriculum beginning in the fall as students 14 years old and up eligible to participate.
In 2024, the Mississippi Legislature approved a bill that requires all school districts to offer driver’s ed to high school students beginning with next school year.

Brady replaces Woodrow as Trojans head coach

When the West Marion Trojans take the field for Week 1 in the fall, they will be led by a new head coach. Mason Woodrow, who has led the Trojans the past three years, resigned as head coach and was officially replaced by assistant coach Lane Brady Monday night.
