Deputies chase 2 suspects in 2-hour span

Deputies with the Marion County Sheriff's Office were busy chasing suspects Friday as they were led on a high-speed chase that reached 120 miles per hour and had to chase down another individual who attempted to while handcuffed.

South State Champions

The Columbia Academy Lady Cougars claimed the program’s first-ever South State title Monday at The Yards. They will play in the 3A State Tournament beginning Saturday in Magee.

To claim its first-ever South State Championship Monday, the Columbia Academy Lady Cougars railroaded their competition throughout the tournament at The Yards, winning all four games a combined 40-9, including Amite School Center 10-3 in the title game.

Remembering a Marion County legend

The Columbian-Progress extends its heartfelt condolences to the Holmes family and all of Hilton Holmes' relatives. Holmes, who died at the age of 91 on Dec. 11, was a great friend to the C-P and to all of Marion County. Together with Paul Pounds, Holmes started the Marion County Football Championship and Most Valuable Player award.
