New tower to help provide rural Internet

A new tower erected by AT&T near Kokomo will help provide high-speed internet to an area of Marion County that was previously under served.
A group of state, local and AT&T officials gathered Wednesday near the tower along Branton Bay Road, just off U.S. 98 near the Walthall County line.

A call for assistance got a Columbia man more than simply a ride home.
Columbia Police Department Cpl. Candice Stuart responded last Saturday to Lafayette Street and came upon an elderly, wheelchair-ridden man holding a box of clothing and asking for assistance.

Columbia officers prep for ‘blitz’

With school started and the Labor Day weekend approaching, the Columbia Police Department is increasing road patrols dedicated to traffic safety.
“From Aug. 18 through Sept. 4, we’re conducting our Labor Day blitz,” Capt. Johnny Barnes said. “We will be looking for impaired drivers and more during this period.”
