It was an action-packed weekend in Columbia as Marion Countians celebrated our nation’s Independence Day.
Downtown Columbia was packed with cars for a cruise-in before the night sky was lit up with fireworks. Several churches also lit up the sky with fireworks throughout the county.

Cemetery complaints prompt quick action by city officials

Thursday’s complaints turned into Friday’s compliments for city crews at Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia.
Mayor Justin McKenzie and City Streets, Parks and Cemeteries Supervisor Earl Turnage began receiving reports late Thursday about sloppy work by crews at the city’s largest cemetery. By Friday morning the issues were being addressed.
