A 20-year-old Columbia man who serves in the Army National Guard has been charged with statutory rape for engaging in sexual activity with a 14-year-old.
Kameron Antonio Evans Virgil, who is also a firefighter with the Foxworth Volunteer Fire Department and a proclaimed minister, allegedly committed the offense in June 2023.
Det. Micheal Turner said in a press release that his alleged crime is particularly concerning considering Virgil holds “multiple positions of trust” within the community.
Virgil was taken into custody May 15 at the Marion County Regional Correctional Facility and received a $5,000 bond. He has since bonded out of jail.
“The Columbia Police Department remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding justice and the law in cases of sexual assault,” the press release stated. “The department's Major Crime Bureau's dedication and expertise in investigating such offenses reflect its resolute dedication to safeguarding the community and its children while ensuring accountability for offenders.”
