The Nation's Weather for Friday, May 19, 2023
_____
NATIONAL SUMMARY
Thunderstorms from western Kentucky southwestward to central
Texas can bring flooding downpours, large hail and damaging
wind gusts tomorrow. Any thunderstorms in the mountains of
the West can cause flash flooding. However, the northern
Rockies are expected to be dry, and smoke from distant
wildfires is likely to lead to poor air quality. While the
coastal Northwest will turn cooler, the interior will remain
unseasonably warm. An eastward-moving cold front will bring
showers and thunderstorms to the Ohio and Tennessee valleys.
A developing area of low pressure will bring locally heavy
rain and coastal flooding to the Outer Banks. The Northeast
can expect a dry day with warmer air which will allow
temperatures to be close to the historical average.
