The Nation's Weather for Monday, January 8, 2024
_____
NATIONAL SUMMARY
Besides a lingering snow shower in upstate New York, dry
weather will return to the Northeast and Great Lakes as a
storm moves eastward off the coast tomorrow. Meanwhile, a
potent storm will begin to take shape across the center of
the nation, spreading rain and thunderstorms across the
South Central and Southeast. Thunderstorms can become
severe from eastern Texas to the panhandle of Florida, and
can bring flooding downpours, localized damaging wind gusts
and even tornadoes. Farther north, a wide swath of snow
will develop from Colorado to Minnesota and Iowa. Travel
can become dangerous at times, especially at night. As this
storm strengthens, winds can become strong at night across
the Plains. Another storm will begin to move into the
Northwest, bringing rain and mountain snow.
