Daphne Wagley Stewart, formerly of Columbia, has been awarded the prestigious Katherine Schultz Character Award at San Marcos Academy in San Marcos, Texas. The award was established to recognize and honor alumni who have exhibited courage, commitment, and willingness to sacrifice for the greater good in his/her field of endeavor or community involvement and must exhibit qualities and attitudes that bring credit to San Marcos Academy. Stewart’s name will be inscribed on a permanent plaque which will be displayed at the school.
Stewart is the daughter of the late Flanders and Yvonne Wagley of Goss. She graduated from The University of Texas in Austin, was an educator for 32 years, and named teacher of the year numerous times. She was also a social worker for the State of Texas.
Stewart is forever grateful for having parents of faith and growing up in their Mississippi country church during her early years. She is also grateful to God for putting people in her life at San Marcos Academy who loved her as their own and shared God’s love through them. Stewart’s advice to the current students at The Academy is to “Always be kind because you never know what someone may be going through.” Stewart was presented the Katherine Schultz Character Award by the President of San Marcos Academy, Dr. Brian Guenther and San Marcos Academy Alumni President, Cal Downey.
