Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. on April 12 in Woodlawn Cemetery for Joe Allen Pittman, 85, of McComb, who died on April 8. Dr. David Millican and Rev. Bobby Dawson officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until the time of the services at Hartman-Jones Funeral Home of McComb.
He was born on July 28, 1937, in Foxworth, to the late TJ Pittman and Donnis Rankin Pittman.
He graduated from Mississippi State University with a bachelor of science in engineering. He was a retired civil engineer serving the state of Mississippi for 37 years. After retiring from the highway department as district engineer, he began working for Neel-Schaffer, Inc., managing projects in the Mississippi Delta, the Mississippi Gulf Coast and Florida. He enjoyed his work immensely and developed many lasting friendships with his coworkers.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. His humor and care for others will be greatly missed. He served Central Baptist Church faithfully for many years and recently became a member of First Christian Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Deborah Pittman Cox; and three brothers, Harry Pittman, Bob Pittman and Bill Pittman.
Survivors include his wife, Vesta Pittman of McComb; daughter, Jolyn Stone (Grant) of Clinton; four grandchildren, John Christopher Cox and Walker Cox of Cleveland and Mary Virginia Stone and Mamie Stone of Clinton; one brother, Danny Pittman of Georgetown, S.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were John Christopher Cox, Walker Cox, Grant Stone and Danny Pittman.
Hartman Jones Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
