90, Improve Community
Funeral services were held at noon on Friday, March 24, 2023, at Improve Baptist Church for Lou Cretia Williams, 90, of the Improve community, who died on Wednesday, March 22. Burial followed in Improve Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Darel Daniels and Rev. Johnathan McLemore officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until the time of the services on Friday, March 24, at Improve Baptist Church.
She was born in Sumrall to Willie and Lillie Buchanan and has been a resident of Marion County for the past 68 years. She was a hairdresser and worked out of the shop in her home for many years. She was a Godly woman of deep faith and shared her faith with her community through her membership with Improve
Baptist Church. She enjoyed gospel music, the Smokey Mountains, Charlie Pride and cooking for her family and friends. She was an excellent cook and will be remembered for her buttermilk pound cake.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Lillie Buchanan; husband, Vertis Williams; sister, Dovie Bond; brother, James Buchanan;
granddaughter, Lauren Petty; niece, Betty Gail Fortenberry; and two nephews, Aaron Bennett and Douglas Buchanan.
Survivors include her two daughters, Celeste Petty (Mike) and Darlane Williams; four grandchildren, Brandon Petty (Barbie Clark), Marcus Petty, Shane Bass and Deanna Bass; and three great-grandchildren, Sean Bass, Natalie Bass and Deavannah Bass.
Colonial Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
