Merida Ralph “Nuppy” Hawthorn
74, Lumberton
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Clear Creek Baptist Church for Merida Ralph “Nuppy” Hawthorn, 74, of Lumberton, who died on Monday, April 3, at his residence. Burial followed in Clear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Scotty Chabert officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until the time of the services on Wednesday, April 5, at Clear Creek Baptist Church.
He was a graduate of Hub High School where he excelled in basketball, track and field events. In adulthood, he owned several successful businesses including Ralph’s Backhoe and Dirt Hauling. He was an avid collector of coins and stamps and loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He also loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Clear Creek Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents who reared him, Merida Pittman and Ethel Pittman; his biological father, Harry
Fillmore; adopted father, Leon P. Hawthorn; and mother, Juanita Pittman Hawthorn; sister, Joann Armour; and brother, Mark Hawthorn.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Reba Hawthorn; sons, Matthew Hawthorn (Kristy) and Josh Hawthorn (Alyson); brothers, Wayne Hawthorn (Karen), and Brian Hawthorn; and his three grandchildren, Kalyn Hawthorn, Kennis Hawthorn and Anne Marie Hawthorn.
Pallbearers were Michael Hawthorn, Terry Rowell, Don Davis, Jeff Rayborn, Tommy Rankin and J. R. Lee.
