Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, 2021, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Paul Aaron Barber, 57, of Columbia, who passed away on Thursday, March 18. Burial followed in the Old Brushy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Columbia. Bros. Bill Morris and Doug Barber officiated at the services. Visitation was held from noon until the time of the services on Sunday, March 21, at Hathorn Funeral Home.
He was born and raised in Columbia, where he faithfully served his community for two terms as the Marion County Constable. Whether fishing, deer hunting or turkey hunting, he enjoyed spending time outdoors. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Enon Baptist Church. His most cherished moments always included family, where he loved visits with his mother and drinking coffee with his loved ones. He will be always be remembered as a friend to everyone that knew him.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Joel “Little Billy” Barber.
Survivors include his two daughters, Dana Green of Sumrall and Erin Nichols of Columbia; son, Jamie Powell (Brittney) of Sumrall; parents, Rev. Thomas and Peggy Barber of Columbia; one brother, Tim Barber (Denise) of Columbia; three sisters, Kathy Stuckey (Keith) and Amanda Little, both of Columbia‚ and Naomi Nichols of Sumrall; five grandchildren, Christin Nichols, Micah Prine, Emalee Nichols, Braxton Green and Elizabeth Powell, and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Steve Adkins, Charles Barber, Jeffrey Barber, Jimmy Barber, Tony Baughman, Alex Little, Travis Little and Coleton Nichols. Honorary pallbearers were Tim Barber, Trent Barber, Leigh Berry, Judge Gwen Broom, Judge Tony Mazingo, Janette Nolan, Judge Brandon Rowell and Gene Ryals.
