Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Columbia for Alta Sumners Fortenberry, 88 of Columbia, who died Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at Nichols Center in Madison. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Bro. Don Lum will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, at First Baptist Church of Columbia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Wassie Sumners; her husband of 32 years, Frank R. Fortenberry, M.D.; and one brother, David Sumners.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Pettis (Jim) of Madison; her son, Frank Fortenberry (Susan), of Tupelo; one brother, Phillip Sumners (Glaphrey) of Leesburg, Ga.; and six grandchildren, Elizabeth Pettis of Washington D.C., Catherine Pettis and Caroline Pettis, both of Madison; and Sumner Fortenberry, Walker Fortenberry and Niland Fortenberry, all of Tupelo.
