Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2020, in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel for Dimple Christie, 82, of Columbia, who died on Tuesday, June 30 in Jackson. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Dr. Bryant Barnes officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 2 at Colonial Funeral Home.
She was born in Crocketts Bluff, Ark., to George and Rachel Kidd as one of 12 children. She had been a resident of Columbia for the past 60 years, where she managed the Dog-N-Suds prior to opening her own Christie’s Restaurant. With her vast cooking experience, she was able to travel the world cooking for crews with the Gulf National Oil Company. After seven years of travel, she spent the last 15 years before retirement working at the Ellisville State School. She was devoted to her family, loved her children and grandchildren and the time that her family spent together. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and excellent cooking skills.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her 11 siblings, Johnnie Kidd, Edd Kidd, Bill Kidd, Georgie Kidd, Early Kidd, Scott Kidd, Danny Ray Kidd, Gracie Ross, Lillie Duncan, Fay Chism and Minnie Miller.
Survivors include her loving husband of 65 years, Donald Christie; two daughters, Cornelia Criddle (Mike) and Laura Christie; two sons, Sammy Christie and Jamie Christie; nine grandchildren, Kent Criddle (Rachel), Luke Criddle, LeAnn Harvey (Jason), Lacy Wilks (Kyle), Lori Beth Christie, Jamie Christie II, Shaw Christie, Alex Christie and Olivia Fortenberry (Taylor); and 10 great-grandchildren, Rylee Cooper, Maggie Wilks, Macie Wilks, Merritt Wilks, Olan Ketchings, Destini Christie, Zoe Christie, Jaila Christie, Madison Christie and Baby Boy Criddle.
Pallbearers were Kent Criddle, Luke Criddle, Taylor Fortenberry, Jason Harvey, David Hobgood, Kevin King, Kyle Wilks, Jamie Christie II, Shaw Christie and Olan Ketchings.
