Edgar Earl “Spooky” Sims

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, at Crosspoint Community Church in Hattiesburg for Edgar Earl “Spooky” Sims Jr., 62, of Columbia, who passed away peacefully on Dec. 30 at the home of his sister in Columbia following a courageous battle against cancer. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Dr. Dean Register officiated at the services. Visitation was held from noon until the time of the services on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at Crosspoint Community Church.
He was born on Oct. 29, 1956, to Byrle Hood Sims and E.E. Ras Sims. A graduate of Columbia High School, he was elected Mr. CHS and was a member of the football team and National Honor Society. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He cherished the life-long friendships he made in college.
He enjoyed golf, working out at the gym and was a loyal fan of the New Orleans Saints. He was a devoted member of Crosspoint Community Church of Hattiesburg and was thankful for the Christian love and fellowship he found in that congregation. He and his late father were partners in S&S Mini-Storage facilities in Columbia.
Survivors include his sisters, Tootie Murry (Tom) and Lisa Sims; niece, Lee Stringer; nephews, John Murry and Alex Murry (Meridith); great nephew and nieces, Porter Price, Evie Murry and Kate Israel; special cousin, Marilyn Griffin; many family friends who will miss his sweet and witty personality and his faithful canine companion, Charlie.
Pallbearers were Greg Dale, Tommy Duff, Red Rayburn, Porter Price, Alex Murry and Bruce Livingston.
