Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church of Columbia for Edith W. McMurray, 96, of Columbia, who died on Monday, Sept. 17 at her residence. Burial followed in Cedar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Greg Pittman and Bro. Mike Sahler officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until the time of the services on Thursday, Sept. 20 at the First United Methodist Church of Columbia.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and often attended Chapel of the Cross in recent years. She was an active community volunteer and member of the United Methodist Women, Morning Circle, Junior Auxiliary, the Cosmopolitan Club, the Pine Needle Garden Club and a bridge club, which spanned several decades with cherished friends. Most of all, she loved hosting social events with her husband at their camp for friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Edna Willoughby; husband, James McMurray; brother, Howard Willoughby, and faithful companion, Sara Lee.
Survivors include her two daughters, Margaret Ball (John) and Kay Agnew, both of Dallas, Texas; sister, Dorothy Mohrle of Dallas, Texas; grandchild, Margaux Ginn (Miles) of Columbia; great-grandchildren, Hallie Ginn and Mac Ginn, both of Columbia; sister-in-law, Helen Willoughby of Columbia, and a number of beloved nieces, nephews, caregivers and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Columbia or the Chapel of the Cross United Methodist Church in Columbia.
