Eugene Dorsey
94, San Diego, Calif.
Born in Morrisville, S.C., to Nicholas and Iola (Fulmore) Dorsey. Eugene was raised by his cousin in the community of Dorsey Town, S.C.
He served three years in the United States Army. In the early 50’s, he moved to Detroit, Mich. On May 29, 1954, he wed Artherine Geeston in Toledo, Ohio. They celebrated over 50 years of marriage before she passed away in 2005. Artherine brought four daughters and one son to the marriage, Georgia Mae Barnes, Ethelrine Hunter, Polly Pope and Charles Harvey, all preceding him in death. With one surviving daughter, Rebecca Robertson who currently resides in Spring Valley, Calif.
He retired from Ford Motor Company after 30 years of service. His professional life spilled over into his personal life – he loved to keep his cars in tip top shape inside and out, spending most weekends, washing and polishing his prized possessions, a blue Thunderbird and a gold Lincoln Town car.
After his retirement, he and his wife moved from the Motor City to the countryside of Columbia. He had long since accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and attended Oak Vale Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a mason. He and his wife resided there for several years, before relocating to Las Vegas, Nev., to be near their three daughters. In 2017, he moved to San Diego, to be with his grandchildren.
At 94 years of age, he was a bundle of joy and a blessing to be around. He woke up with a smile and went to sleep with a smile. He enjoyed sports especially football and basketball. He also enjoyed having the Bible read to him and listening to gospel music. He will be so missed by his entire family.
There are countless grandchildren in San Diego, Seattle, Detroit and Philadelphia; great-grandchildren in California, Illinois, Georgia and Arizona, and great-great-grandchildren in California, Michigan and Louisiana.
He is also survived and remembered by family and friends in Detroit, Michigan, Columbia, Dorsey Town, South Carolina and Las Vegas including his first cousins Emerson Dorsey of Hemingway, S.C., Eugene Dorsey of Atlanta, Ga. and Anna Smith of Washington, D.C.
Granddaughters, Rhoda, Helene and Kim would like to acknowledge Danielle Roberts, who shared her exemplary care and compassion for “Grandpa” and his family during this very difficult time.
His ashes were spread with his beloved wife of 50+ years at the Red Rock National Park in Las Vegas, Nev.
