Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, at Hathorn Funeral Home for John E. Singley, 90, of Columbia, who died on Monday, Sept. 2 in Columbia. Burial will follow in Society Hill Cemetery. Bro. Mark McArthur officiated. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of the services on Thursday, Sept. 5 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
As a longtime resident of Marion County, he was a retired tug boat captain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Readus and Cleta Singley; son, John Lawayne Singley, and one great-grandchild, Colton Singley.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Zellie Butler Singley of Columbia; one daughter, Melinda Thornhill (Randy) of Kokomo; three sisters, Anna May Tolar of Pascagoula, Brigette Mitchell of Conroe, Texas, and Mildred Patterson, of Ponchatoula, La.; two brothers, Rayford Singley of Arizona and Bill Singley of Arkansas; four grandchildren, Tina Thomas of Moselle, Tammy Popwell (Zach) and Steven Thornhill, both of Foxworth, and Jonathan Singley (Bridggett) of Purvis; and three great-grandchildren, Hunter Singley and Caden Singley, both of Purvis, and Makaylee Thomas of Moselle.
Pallbearers were Randy Thornhill, Steven Thornhill, Tommy Craft and Zach Popwell.
