Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, at Colonial Funeral Home for Leroy Joseph Taylor, 59, of Mize, who died on Friday, Sept. 21 in Jackson. Burial followed in Pine Burr Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Bill Miller officiated at the services. Visitation was held from noon until the time of the services on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at Colonial Funeral Home.
A native of New Orleans, he was the former owner of L&J Tree Service of Columbia and a supervisor in the oil field.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Oglesby Taylor; his son, Mitchell Oglesby; parents, Selma R. and Betty Taylor; sisters, Elizabeth Taylor, Connie Taylor, Rina Mae Newman and Tammy Carpenter; brothers, Jimmie Taylor, John Taylor, James Taylor and David Taylor, and niece, Jennifer Denise Mahaffey.
Survivors include his two daughters, Elizabeth “Beth” Taylor and Shawnee Oglesby; son, Logan Taylor; two brothers, S. Robert Taylor and Jay Taylor; five sisters, Patricia “Cathy” Mahaffey (John), Janet Taylor, Betty Chantz Gaspard, K. Naomi Stutes and Versie Lovely; nieces, Jamie Taylor and Marcia Vasquez; six nephews, Derek Mahaffey, Josh Mahaffey, Justin Mahaffey, Taylor Gaspard, Seth Gaspard and Joseph Leger, and special friends, Walter and Barbara Cooper, Elwood Tyler, Charles Mizell, J.D. Meadows, Mike Vaughn and Jimmie Dale Odom.
