Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Linda Simmons, 75, of Columbia, who passed away to her heavenly home on Wednesday, Oct. 9 with her family by her side in Columbia. Burial followed in Enon Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. William Pierce Jr., Rev. Kenny Peavey and Bro. Bill Morris officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
She was an active member of the Enon Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. A beloved math and science teacher for 38 years, she first taught at Sumrall Elementary and then at Columbia Academy. Gifted at many things, she will be remembered for her love of family, teaching, music and her amazing caramel cake.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mavis and Porter Hudson Sr.; first husband, Harold McBride, and son, Jason McBride.
Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Douglas Simmons; her three daughters, Renee Porter (Tom), Nancy Hartfield (Stuart) and Michele Pierce (William); 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two more great-grandchildren expected in December and six brothers and sisters, Ondean Webb, Woodley Hudson, Jearlyn Akers, Betty Ann Waits, Joel Hudson and Porter Hudson Jr.
Pallbearers were Javan Porter, Jesse Hartfield, Jacob Pierce, Jonathan Hartfield, Joshua Hartfield, Jonathan Morris, Jonathan Foxworth and Ashton Belk.
