90, Improve Community
Funeral services officiated were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 21, 2020, at Improve Baptist Church for Bobbie Jean Geverd, 90, of the Improve community, who went home to be with The Lord on Thursday, Sept. 17. Burial followed in Improve Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Darel Daniels officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until the time of the services on Monday, Sept. 21 at Improve Baptist Church.
She was born in Marion County, Mississippi to Shelly and Hazell Morris where she has remained a lifelong resident. She was a basketball standout in high school and played ball at Hinds County Junior College where she was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her family. She served her Lord and the Improve Community through her lifelong membership with Improve Baptist Church. She worked tirelessly in many aspects of the church, including teaching Sunday School, helping with the bereavement committee and will forever be known as “The Sweet Tea Lady.”
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Joann Morris; husband, James D. Geverd; son, David Geverd, and two grandsons, Kiel McKenzie and Dustin Geverd.
Survivors include her two daughters, Tina Magee (David), and Terri McKenzie (Glen); brother, Bill Morris; four grandchildren, Taryn Murphey (David), Garrett Magee, Kasey Gill (Kayla) and Kalin McKenzie, and five great-grandchildren, Addi Hollis, Tatum Murphey, Kohen Gill, Kiel Stokes Murphey and Knox Gill.
Pallbearers were David Magee, Glen McKenzie, David Murphey, Kasey Gill, Kalin McKenzie and Garrett Magee. Honorary pallbearers were Kiel Stokes Murphey, Kohen Gill and Knox Gill.
Colonial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
