Juanita Elaine Roberts
92, Sandy Hook
A private memorial service was held on Saturday, July 11, 2020, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Juanita Elaine Roberts, 92, of Sandy Hook, who died on Thursday, June 9 surrounded by family. Bro. Ricky Daugherty officiated at the service and Mattie Roberts sang and played “In the Sweet By and By” on ukulele. A graveside service was held on Sunday, July 12, in Memory Hill Cemetery in Dothan, Ala. Rev. Eddie Littlefield officiated at the service.
Born Aug. 28, 1927, in Newton, Ala., she lived in the Dothan area before making the move to Sandy Hook to be with family in 2017. She was known as Laine to those closest to her and Granny to her family. She was a devoted homemaker and pastor’s wife. Her son, Freddy, accurately described her as a lot tougher than most people gave her credit for. She loved to cook and was best known for her delicious pound cakes.
She loved Jesus, her family, her dog, Braves baseball, Alabama Football and collecting owls. So when you see an owl of any kind or hear the voice Eli Gold on the radio, remember that Granny Roberts loved these things too. Her final days were spent at home in the company of family supported by her care team at Forrest General Hospice.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Thelma Beasley; husband, H.S. Roberts, and daughter, Linda Elaine Chance.
Survivors include her son, Freddy Roberts (Donna) of Sandy Hook; grandchildren, Melissa Still (Mark) of Erie, Colo., and Scott Roberts (Dannell) and Lee Anne Venable (Ronnie), both of Hattiesburg; great-grandchildren, Shelby Elaine Still, Natalie Ann Bloomston (Jared), Mattie Elizabeth Roberts, Anna Craig Roberts and Andrew Venable; sister-in-law, Nancy Woodham, brother-in-law, Paul Roberts (Jackie), and her beloved dog, Tiger, the Boston Terrier.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Asbury Hospice House through the Forrest General Healthcare Foundation, P.O. Box 19010 Hattiesburg, MS 39404.
Hathorn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
