Louise Elavee Holmes
92, Jayess
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, at Pine Grove Pentecostal Church for Louise Elavee Holmes, 92, of Jayess, who died on Monday, Dec. 7. Burial followed in Pine Grove Pentecostal Church Cemetery. Rev. W.J. Holland, Pastor Randy M. Jones and Rev. Darrin L. Powell officiated at the services. Visitation was held from noon until the time of the services on Monday, Dec. 14, at Pine Grove Pentecostal Church.
She was born, Nov. 21, 1928, in Lawrence County, to Felix L. and Roxie Clarady Sartin. After her marriage to Wesley Ray Holmes, and the birth of their first two daughters, the family moved to Harvey, La. Their third little girl was born there.
In 1958, they moved back to Lawrence County, where she lived the remainder of her years. There, she received her GED, as her family cheered her on. She worked for Kellwood Company, in Monticello, for 30 years, retiring as an Inspector. She was a “Soldier of the Faith.” She was a faithful member of Pine Grove United Pentecostal Church, until her health was completely broken. This is a sad time for her family and friends, who are left behind, but they rejoice in knowing that she is in the presence of her Lord Jesus, whom she served almost all her life.
She lived a selfless life, always serving others. Her daughters have said, “We have never heard our Mother carry gossip, or speak ill of anyone.” She was devoted to her family all the way down to her two great-great-grandchildren. Friends and family remember the big breakfasts and delicious biscuits she served. Also, the best seasoned vegetables, and, to top it all, those wonderful, family favorite tea-cakes.
Her favorite place to be was home, and she sewed for her family for many years. Her favorite hobby was reading. She was a Proverbs 31 lady. “Her children arise up, and call her blessed.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Ray Holmes; father, Rev. Felix L. Sartin; mother, Rev. Roxie C. Sartin; two sisters, Arleen S. Price and Jeanette S. Breithaupt; one brother, Rev. F.L. Sartin, and one grandson, Jameson M. Jones.
Survivors include her daughters, Lynda H. Powell (Melvin L. Powell) of Foxworth, Sherry Jean Holland (Rev. W.J. Holland) of Hammond, La., and Donna H. Jones (Pastor Randy M. Jones) of McComb; one brother, Gerald K. Sartin (Penny) of Jayess; seven grandchildren, Rev. Darrin L. Powell (Marilyn), Juli Powell Stoots (Ronnie), Robin Powell Ham (Darrin), Missy Holland Robinson (Rev. Gary), Rev.
