Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, 2020, at Hathorn Funeral Home in Columbia for Virgil Carlos Stringer, 83, of Foxworth, who passed away Monday, Aug. 3 in Hattiesburg. Burial followed in Lott Cemetery. Bro. Evan Sheridan officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
He was a longtime resident of the New Hope Community and member of New Hope Baptist Church. He loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He was a good ole county boy that loved his granddaughter with all his heart. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Stringer, and parents, Willie and Carrie Stringer.
Survivors include his his son, Heath Stringer of Foxworth; granddaughter, Carrie Stringer of Columbia; brother, B.B. Stringer of Foxworth; nieces, Belinda Stringer of Louisiana and Jill Spears (Morris) of Louisiana, and great-niece, Makaila Gabriel of Louisiana.
Pallbearers were Sherman Pounds, Duwane Brumfield, Donald Lowery, Pud Stringer, Sherrell Magee and Terry Robertson.
