Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Carolyn Griffith Taylor, 80, of Columbia, who died on Wednesday, Nov. 27 in Hattiesburg. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Dr. Bryant Barnes and Bro. Hugh Griffith officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until the time of the services on Saturday, Nov. 30 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
As a longtime resident of Marion County, she and her husband, Gilbert, founded and operated Taylor's Pharmacy for 24 years. Through the years, they also founded Super Discount Furniture Warehouse, Big City Rentals, Foxworth Finance and Fast Cash for Checks. She also loved to travel, until illness in her later years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Gilbert Taylor; parents, Lonnie and Katie Griffith; two sisters, Bernice Barrett and Vondell Simmons, and five brothers, Lamont Griffith, Ellis Griffith, Truitt Griffith, Milton Griffith and Mims Griffith.
Survivors include her daughter, Marie Herring (Clint) of Columbia; son, Gilbert Griffith Taylor of Hattiesburg, and sister, Frances Robinson of Columbia.
