Graveside services were held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, in the Society Hill Baptist Church Cemetery for James Vernon “Jimmy” Bryant, 75, who passed away from this life on Thursday, May 28 in Ruston, La. Rev. Mike Aultman officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3 at Ebenezer Baptist Church.
He was born on Feb. 6, 1945, in Hattiesburg to Earl Bryant Jr. and Wilda Louise Strickland Bryant. He was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served in the Navy Construction Battalion (CB’s). He was self-employed as a crain and heavy equipment operator.
He spent most of his career in South Louisiana before retiring back to Oak Vale. He enjoyed serving others with a smile on his face and love in his heart. He and his wife enjoyed sharing their love with family and friends. His love of the Lord Jesus Christ was most important in his life, and he was always willing to share Christ with those around him. He was active in the Royal Ambassadors (RA’s), the Southern Baptist Association and the Baptist Foundation. Jimmy Bryant was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother, Paul Eldridge Bryant, and an infant brother.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Sandra Grace Macon Bryant of Oak Vale; two sons, Jeremy Vernon Bryant of Toronto, Canada, and Jacob Paul Bryant (Jennifer) of Hammond, La.; two daughters, Jessica Bryant Bennett and Jennifer Elizabeth Garriga (Christopher), both of Ruston, La.; six grandchildren, Bryant Reagan Bennett, Britton Morgan Bennett, Brycen Bradley Bennett, Charley Grace Garriga, Collins Elizabeth Garriga and Hadley Beth Bryant; one sister, Rebecca Bryant Farlow (Donald) of Benton Harbor, Mich., as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Christopher Garriga, Bryant Bennett, Jacob Bryant, Tommy Michael Smith, Eddie McRaney, Jeffrey Lee, Bradley Bennett and Webb Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Ebenezer Baptist Church at 321 Ebenezer Road, Bassfield, MS 39421.
