A private family graveside service was held on Saturday, April 11, 2020, in Coal Town Cemetery for Juston Howard Watts, 89, Purvis, who died on Wednesday, April 11 in Hattiesburg. Rev. Bill Wright officiated at the service.
He was born and raised in Columbia. He has resided in Purvis for the last 60 years. He worked over 45 years as a line foreman, serviceman and supervisor with Pearl River Valley Electric Power Association. He was a longtime, active member of First Baptist Church in Purvis where he served as a deacon. He was a multi-talented man who greatly assisted many people and with many projects. One of his pet projects was his work on the physical development of the Lamar County Christian School.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Betty Jo Messer Watts; parents, Manson and Gracie Watts of Columbia; two brothers, J.L. Watts and Huston Watts, both of Columbia, and two sisters, Lillie Haddox and Bonnylin Lightsey, both of Columbia.
Survivors include his daughter, Golda Edwards (Bill) of Clover, S.C.; sons, Mike Watts (Pam) of Purvis and Jerry Watts (Deboria) of Lucedale; two sisters, Betty Carolyn Pierce (Daryl) of Columbia and Janice Travirca of Jackson; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
