Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2019, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Prentiss A. Pritchard, 84, of Columbia, who died on Saturday, Dec. 14 at his residence. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Bro. Glen Freeman and Bro. Reed Houston officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
As a longtime resident of Marion County, he owned and operated a grocery store for 35 years in Columbia. His family will always cherish the memories of his love for watching wrestling with his great-grandson as well as his beloved New Orleans Saints. He was a faithful member of Chapel of the Cross United Methodist Church in Columbia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mermon and Clora Pritchard; one brother, Lee Pritchard, and two sisters, Ida Mae Sullivan and Mary Harbour.
Survivors include his wife, Emma B. Pritchard of Columbia; one daughter, Deborah Mauldin (Randy) of Columbia; two sons, Mark Pritchard of Freeport, Fla., and Billy Carter (Linda) of Pike Road, Ala.; two sisters, Elaine Lumpkin of Quinlan, Texas, and Martha Pettit (Boots) of Houston; four grandchildren, Addison Mauldin (Jessica) of New Market, Ala., Amber West (Jordan) of Ocean Springs, Matthew Carter of Pike Road, Ala., and Amanda Johnson (Daniel) of Auburn, Ala., and two great-grandchildren, Braelyn Mauldin and Jenson Mauldin, both of New Market, Ala.
Pallbearers were Randy Mauldin, Matthew Carter, Jordan West, Addison Mauldin, Daniel Johnson and Mike White. Honorary pallbearers were Ken Knopp, Emmett Broom, Mitchell Welch, Joe McNeese, Reuben McDowell and Rob Scheppers.
