Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, 2020, in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel for Ray Thornhill, 87, of Foxworth, who died on Friday, Jan. 31. Burial followed in Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was held from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the services on Monday, Feb. 3 at Colonial Funeral Home.
He was born in Foxworth and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1952. He served one tour overseas in Laos and Cambodia and was living in Southern California when his final enlistment ended in 1964. After 32 years in California, he came home to Marion County in 1993.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Thornhill; father, Hosea Ray Thornhill Sr., and one brother, Donald L. Thornhill.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Audrey Jean “Jeannie” Thornhill; two nieces, Elizabeth Thornhill and Melinda Thornhill; two nephews, David Thornhill and Kevin Thornhill; several great nieces and nephews and a host of devoted cousins.
