Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2019, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Russell Christopher Burton, 61, of Columbia, who died on Friday, Dec. 13 in Jackson. Burial followed in Randall Cemetery in Columbia. Rev. Justin Cameron officiated at the services. Visitation was held from noon until the time of the services on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
As a longtime resident of Marion County, he moved to Columbia from Baton Rouge. He served his nation faithfully for 16 years in the United States Army National Guard. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed motorcycles. He and Carolyn loved traveling on their bikes together. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Burton; grandparents, Cicero and Roxy Greer, and two grandchildren, Keylee and Lynlei.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Carolyn Burton of Columbia; mother, Marguerite Burton of Columbia; two daughters, Ashley Boone (Scott) of Lumberton and April Stampley (David) of Lumberton; two sisters, Stephanie Ann Chapman (Ferrell) of Gonzales, La., and Ronnie Graham (Patrick) of Slaughter, La.; one brother, Michael Burton (Juliet) of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren, Tyler Schultz, Tyler Armstrong, Gavin Armstrong, Christopher Stampley, Phoenix Boone, Kinsley Boone and Brody Stampley; six nephews, Chris Burton, Joey Burton, Justin Graham, Jeffrey Graham, Alex Chapman and Troy Chapman; one great-niece, Madison Graham, and one great-nephew, Jace Graham.
Pallbearers were Gavin Armstrong, Tyler Armstrong, Chris Burton, Joey Burton, Alex Chapman, Troy Chapman, Jeffrey Graham, Justin Graham and Tyler Schultz.
