Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Reece Colon Broom, 70, of Mountain View, Ariz., who passed away on Sunday, Oct. 13 at his residence. Burial will follow in Faithway Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Donnie Broom, Bro. Brent King and Bro. Everette Broome will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
Formerly of Marion County, he was a longtime resident of Mountain View, Ariz. He retired from the military as a staff sergeant. He loved spending time with his family and his two Boston Terriers, Dozer and Lady. He was a co-author of the "Broom/e Genealogy Book" and served faithfully at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ottis and Edna Broom; brother, Darrell Broome, and sister, Delois Haddox.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Jimmie Sue Palmer Broom of Mountain View, Ariz.; son, Kevin R. Broom (Maria) of San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Leala Archer (Hobbs) of Caldwell, Idaho, and Korey Stephens of San Tan Valley, Ariz.; three brothers, Kermit Broome (Duthel) of Sumrall, Kenneth Broome (Debbie) of Hattiesburg and Davy Broom of Sumrall; four sisters, Nita Sims (Harold) of Hattiesburg, Joyce Prine of Columbia, Dot Peltier (Johnny) of Angie, La., and Brenda Gipson (Don) of Sumrall; sister- in-law, Melanie Broome of Mountain View, Ariz.; former sister-in-law, Linda Sue Broom of Sumrall; 20 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Baughman, Brad Broom, Brian Broom, Michael Broome, Danny Broome and Randy Broome. Honorary pallbearers will be Edwin Haddox and Gary Prine.
Hathorn Funeral Home in Columbia is in charge of the arrangements.
