Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Sammy Steve Dolan, 73, of Oak Vale, who died on Monday, Nov. 12 at his residence after a long battle with heart and lung disease. Burial followed in Society Hill Cemetery. Rev. Jeff Carney, Rev. Mike Mitchell and Rev. John Potts officiated at the services. Visitation was held from noon until the time of the services on Thursday, Nov. 15 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
As a lifelong resident of the Hathorn community, he was an active member of Hathorn Baptist Church. He retired as an inspector for the Mississippi Department of Transportation. Much of his leisure time was spent enjoying the outdoors and hunting. His love of coonhounds and raccoon hunting brought him much joy and many friends all over the country.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Maxine Millis Dolan, and sister-in-law, Ione Broome Potts.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 52 years, Judy Broome Dolan, who cared for him in his last days with amazing strength, compassion and faith in God; daughter, Melanie Jane Dolan Christian; grandsons, Blaize and Thadd Christian; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joyce Broom, Jane and Bobby Simm, Grant and Deborah Broome, Don Broome, John Potts, Gary Broom, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Anthony Maliden, Donald “Hoot” Robertson, Barry Broome, Randy Langston, Tyler Eads and Jerod Eads. Honorary pallbearers were Milton Graham, Eddie McRaney, Ken McKenzie, Bobby Simm, Craig Simm and MDOT employees, Darrel Broome, Darrell McKenzie, David Herrington, Eric Daniels, Ann Rogers and Margarite Davis.
Hathorn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
