Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Steven Dana Miller, 61, of Columbia, who died on Wednesday, Oct. 30 in Hattiesburg. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Bro. Tom Thurman and Dr. Bryant Barnes officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until the time of the services on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
As a longtime resident of Marion County, he was a dedicated alumnus of Southern Miss. He worked at the WIN Job Center in Columbia before serving 12 years as the Deputy City Clerk. Since 2006, he served as the vice president of Human Resources at First Southern Bank in Columbia. He was an avid outdoorsman, a great cook and a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Columbia. He had a deep love for his Lord and his family, especially his three girls.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Miller and Ann Miller.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Cherry Miller of Columbia; two daughters, Margaret Ann "Molly" Miller and Amy Cornelia Miller, both of Columbia; one brother, Thomas Emory Miller (Debby) of Vicksburg, and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers were Matt Taylor, Steve Tipton, Austin Lods, Erik Taylor, Daryl Hurt, Wesley Miller, Bob Black and Scott Davis. Honorary pallbearers were the employees of First Southern Bank, Harold Bryant, Lonnie Stringer and Don Martin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The University of Southern Mississippi Foundation and mailed to 118 College Drive # 5210, Hattiesburg, MS 39406. Please note the gift is made in memory of Steven Dana Miller in the memo line of checks.
