Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 4, 2018, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Vera Eugenia Day, 94, of Columbia, who passed away on Friday, June 1 in Columbia. Burial followed in Pine Burr Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Allen Turnage and Bro. Don Armagost officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 3 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
As a long-time resident of Marion County, she worked as a seamstress and loved quilting. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, and as a long-time member, she taught the Ladies Sunday School Class for over 50 years at Pine Burr Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cornelius and Lula Chapman; husband of 60 years, Lloyd Day; daughter, Dorothy Thornton; two sisters, Dessie Burge and Evie Herrin, and one brother, Norman Chapman.
Survivors include her three daughters, Jeanie Polk (Louis), Joan Bullock and Mary Llyn Sones, all of Columbia; five grandchildren, Drewe Llyn Jeffcoat (Raymond) of Magee, Terry Thornton (Debbie) of Flowood, Lisa Amacker (Brad) of Petal, Ben Sones (Becky) of Oak Grove and Cindy Shields (Chris) of Columbia; 15 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Terry Thornton, Brad Amacker, Chris Shields, Zack Dyar, Forrest Cawley and Raymond Jeffcoat.
