Walter Dewey Windham
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2019, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Walter Dewey Windham Sr., 93, of Foxworth, who passed away on Saturday, June 29 at his residence. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Rev. Tyler Chavis officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 30 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
He was stationed in California and faithfully served our country in the United States Navy. As a longtime resident of Marion County, he owned and operated two businesses in Foxworth including Windham's Tire Shop, which he retired from in 1990. He was a member of Foxworth First Baptist Church, a devoted husband, father and grandparent to his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Monroe "Mack" and Minnie Maisy Windham; one son, Walter Dewey Windham Jr., and one sister, Kathleen Windham Traub.
Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years, Ettie Fay Windham of Foxworth; two sons, Ray Lyn Windham (Karen) of Foxworth and Mikell Wayne Windham (Tracy) of Columbia; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Thomas Windham, Tyler Windham, Cade Carroll, Noah Bryant, Brian Sheffield and Anthony Bourne. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Mixon and Don Johnson.
The family would like to extend heart-felt thanks to everyone that helped care for Dewey during his time of illness, but especially the staff of Encompass Hospice, loving neighbors and the church family of Foxworth First Baptist Church.
