Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Alene W. Lewis, 92, of Columbia, who passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 11, in Columbia. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Rev. Ralph Sanford officiated at the services. Mike Bennett provided special music. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15, at Hathorn Funeral Home.

She was born on April 26, 1932, in Jayess. Everyone will remember her “feisty” and “sassy” personality. An avid supporter of Ole Miss, she worked to put her husband, Pat, through pharmacy school at the University of Mississippi. She told everyone that she earned her PhT there . . . Put Hubby Through! She loved her Lord. She was a faithful member of North Columbia Baptist Church and served many years in the Senior Adult Ministry there. She adored her precious dog, Deacon. She worked as a switchboard operator for Marion General Hospital, and she was also an active sponsor for the West Marion High School Band.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lewis; son, Michael Lewis; father, William Willoughby; mother, Flora Peavy Willoughby; three brothers, J.D. Willoughby, Howard Willoughby (Rosie) and Milton Willoughby (Geneva); and four sisters, Edith Willoughby, Letha Givens, Eunice Harvey and Elsie Ethridge.
Survivors include her son, Steve Lewis (Lynn); daughter, Vicki Sanford (Ralph); seven grandchildren, Anna Montgomery (Andrew), Ben Sanford, Jillian Harris (Matt), William Tyler Lewis (Krislyn), Kimberly Lewis, Candice Lewis and Dean Lewis; seven great-grandchildren, Allie Rose Montgomery, Millie Lovelace Montgomery, Aaron Lewis, Trevor Lewis, Brinley Harris, Maddie Harris and Hannah Lewis; a host of nephews, nieces and friends; daughter-in-law, Julie Lewis; and brother-in-law, Roger (Toni).
Pallbearers were Ben Sanford, William Tyler Lewis and Gerald Broome.
