Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Lakeview Church of God for Billie V. Pate, 93, of Columbia, who passed away on Wednesday, March 19, in Columbia. Rev. A.D. Gammill Jr. officiated the services. Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until the time of the services on Sunday, March 23, at Lakeview Church of God.
Pate, a woman of unwavering faith and boundless compassion, passed away peacefully. As a devoted pastor's wife, she embraced her ministry with grace and unwavering support, touching countless lives within her community. Her dedication extended beyond the church walls, as she served as a compassionate nurse at Marion General Hospital, where she provided comfort and care to those in need. Above all, she cherished her family, showering her children and grandchildren with unconditional love. Her nurturing spirit was particularly evident in her love for newborns in the labor and delivery nurseries, a testament to her gentle and tender heart.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, Rev. L.E. Pate; father, Rufus Perry Evans; and mother, Della Collins Evans.
She is survived by her two sons, David Pate and John Pate (Sha); three grandchildren, Angela Combs (Dennis), Kristen Pate and Steve Pate (Claire); five great-grandchildren, Jordan Pate, Emily Pate, Alaina Williams, Olivia Combs and Paige Schwendler (Dan); and a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
Pallbearers were David Pate, John Pate, Steve Pate and Dennis Combs.
