Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, at Hathorn Funeral Home for Bobbie Smith Beal, 87, of Columbia, who passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at her residence. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia. Rev. Clyde Clark, Pastor Jerron Carney and Rev. Stephen Binion officiated at the services. Bro. Justin Conway and Bro. Joe Bracey provided special music. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, at Hathorn Funeral Home.
She was a lifelong resident of Marion County. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was a member of Woodlawn Pentecostal Church. She worked alongside her husband at their business for many years. After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her family and spending time at their camp. She was an avid deer hunter and in her spare time, she loved crafts and cross stitching. She delighted in giving her beautiful cross stitch work to others. Bobbie was a wonderful cook and enjoyed many special meals with her family. She was known for her pecan pies and her delicious cakes. Visits from her great-grandchildren always put a smile on her face. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Tony Dean Beal; and parents, Hershel and Essie Buchanan Smith.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Tommy Beal of Columbia; daughter, Wanda Gipson (Durwin) of Lumberton; two grandchildren, Jared Gipson (Richelle) of Nixa, Mo., and Dustin Gipson (Kristen) of Hattiesburg; five great-grandchildren, Jalen Gipson, Jonah Gipson, Brayden Gipson, Jacie Gipson and Bryar Gipson.
Pallbearers were Jared Gipson, Jalen Gipson, Jonah Gipson, Brayden Gipson, Donnie Beal and Timmy Beal. Honorary pallbearers were Tommy Crump, Joe Aultman, Hoyt Crain and Dan Beal.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Bobbie’s caregiver, Mitzi Mulford, for her loyalty and love for the last seven years.
