Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, Smith Funeral Home for Carolyn Joyce Spencer Barnes, 76, of Columbia, who died on Friday, Sept. 15, in Gulfport surrounded by her children after experiencing acute respiratory failure. Burial followed in Friendship Cemetery. Viewing was held from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22, at Smith Funeral Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mrs. Catherine Gant and Mr. James Williams Jr.; two brothers, Gregory and Kenneth Douglas; and husband, Willie Fred Barnes.
Survivors include one brother, Raymond Douglas of Victorville, Calif.; one uncle, Willie Edwards of Los Angeles, Calif.; one cousin, Elaine Cousin Waveland; two sons, Charles Pace of D’Iberville and Jerry Tolbert Jr. (Dwaynetta) of Columbia; one daughter, Jennifer Mitchell (Mark) of Biloxi; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one nephew, Gregory Douglas of Anaheim, Calif.; and a host of nieces.
Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone that knew her.
