Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, 2024, at Bunker Hill Baptist Church for David Calvin Robbins, 73, of Columbia, who passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 23, in Columbia. Burial followed in New Bunker Hill Cemetery. Dr. Gary Roberson officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services on Friday, Jan. 26, at Bunker Hill Baptist Church.
He was a member of Bunker Hill Baptist Church and a Master Mason at Carley Lodge #562.
He was a founding member of the Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department, serving the community for nearly four decades from March 1974 until his retirement in December 2013. Throughout those years, he served in a variety of roles including secretary treasurer, president, vice president, assistant chief and board member. As he neared retirement, he continued to serve as a mentor, sharing his years of knowledge and experience with the next generation of firefighters.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Vicki Lynn Robbins; parents, Jack "JC" Robbins and Myrtis Faye King Robbins; and sisters, Edith Caul and Rita Crain.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Lynn Robbins; daughter Elizabeth Edwards (Micheal); son, Brian Robbins (Ashley); sister, Wanda Grice (Jiles); brother, Dennis Robbins (Gwen); and four grandchildren, Landon Edwards, Sophia Lynn Robbins, Holden Edwards and Ava Edwards.
Pallbearers were Brent Robbins, Stevie Hicks, Tyson Hicks, Dewayne Stuckey, Rodney Robertson and Dr. Bill Lawrence.
