Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at First Baptist Church for Edward Marlyn Fortenberry Jr., 76, Columbia, who died on Monday, June 19. Dr. Bryant Barnes will officiate at the services.
He was born on Aug. 15, 1946, to Edward Marlyn Sr. and Lois Fortenberry in Columbia. He retired from Georgia Pacific in 2009 after 23 years. He was a Vietnam veteran that served in the Air Force and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbia. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed all types of hunting and fishing. A relaxing day for him would be sitting down to read a good book or spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marlyn and Lois Fortenberry.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; two daughters, Christy Dyess (Terry) of Columbia and Candace Sandifer of Monticello; three granddaughters, Kennedy Sandifer and Abby Sandifer, both of Monticello, and Melanie Dyess of Improve; one sister, Annie Smith of Monticello; one nephew, Will Lawrence (Tonya) of Madison; and one great-niece, Cameron Grace Lawrence of Madison.
