100, Foxworth
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at New Hope Baptist Church for Henry Howard Bennett, 100, of Foxworth, who passed away on Tuesday, June 13. Burial followed in Lott Cemetery in Foxworth. Rev. Christian Stubbs and Dr. Jerry Watts officiated at the service. Rev. Bradley White of FBC Summit provided special music. Visitation was held from noon until the time of the services on Saturday, June 17, at New Hope Baptist Church.
He served this great nation as a World War II veteran. He was a nose gunner on a B-24 Liberator. flying over 30 missions behind enemy lines. He was highly decorated, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross along with many other medals. Last year, he was knighted by the Nation of France. He was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church where he served over 55 years as a deacon and he also taught Sunday School. He served as a member of American Legion Post #90.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Gay Stephens Bennett; parents, Pierce and Ollie Bennett; nine brothers and sisters; and great-granddaughter, Emalee Arnett.
Survivors include his children, Linda Stringer (Wayne), Sue Long (Lee Campbell), Steve Bennett (Carolyn), and James “Jimmy” Bennett (Wanda); 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Logan Anthony, Maguire Stringer, Ryan Stringer, Scott Bennett, Samuel Martin, Will Arnett, Caleb Stubbs, and Henry Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of New Hope Baptist Church and the American Legion Post #90 of Columbia.
