Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Colonial Funeral Home for James E. Stinson, 67, of Columbia, who passed away on Saturday, March 23, in Hattiesburg. Burial followed in Turnage Chapel Cemetery. Sherwood Reagan and Rev. Justin Stinson officiated at the services. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until the time of the services on Wednesday, March 27, at Colonial Funeral Home.
He was of the Church of God faith and worked for some time in the oil field before founding Stinson Dozer Service of Foxworth. Later, he joined his family at P and J Smith Welding of Foxworth and became shop manager as he enjoyed working as a welding helper.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bertis Stinson; parents, Preston Stinson and Gracie West Stinson; sister, Vonda Brewer; and brothers, Bobby Stinson and Marvin “Chubby” Stinson.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Stinson of Columbia; daughter, Jessica Smith (Perry) of Columbia; sisters, Bernadine McLain (Sam), Barbara “Tootle” Walley (Ben), Nancy Stinson Loftin and Ann Mazingo (Donnie), all of Sand Hill, and Ellen Brewer of Clara; brothers, Billy Stinson (Carolyn) and Jerry Stinson (Penny), both of Sand Hill; six grandchildren, Justin Smith, Robbie Smith (Amber), Shawn Smith (Madeliene), Cherrica Smith, Aubrie Stinson and Jody Yates (Candi); four great-grandchildren, Emma Pittman, Willow Smith, Shiloh Smith and Delilah Stinson Kelly; daughter-in-law, Jenny of North Carolina; and numerous extended family and friends.
Pallbearers were Justin Smith, Robbie Smith, Shawn Smith, Jody Yates, Jubel Rutland and Robbie Gill. Honorary pallbearer was Cherrica Smith.
